Jan Try a zig zag - point to point on your dresden portion and circles in the solid area. The circles could be the same size or be like bubbles of various sizes floating. From the picture, I can not tell if this idea would get you within the 4-6 inch quilting space.

Outline quilt in the Dresdens and a meander or stipple (=dense) in the brown.

I love it. I would do feathers through the browns, and straight lines through the dresdens ;-)
