Stash Report, June 2013

I've been following Judy Laquidera of Patchwork Times for years.  Her stash reports have made me think about managing my stash.  Do I need this new fabric for a project?  Or do I just want it because I like it?  Will I use it?  Fabrics I had to have a few years ago are still waiting to be used.

My tastes have changed.  I have a combination of different styles in my stash, from traditional to batik to modern.  Therefore nothing seems to work together and I need to buy something new for every project.

This year I started keeping a stash report and actually logging my purchases.  Keeping the tally has really made me more mindful about my fabric purchases. Thank you Judy for the inspiration!

Some of the yardage used this month was for this, using large half-hexies which were leftover from another project.  More tomorrow about that other project.  This baby-size quilt used 2 yards for the top and 1-5/8 for the back.

Here is my first published stash report:

In June 2013: 8.5 yards
Out June 2013: -12.625 yards
Good month! Most of the yardage out went into my triangle medallion top, which I'll show tomorrow for Design Wall Monday.

In year to date: 80.125 yards
Out year to date: -73.63 yards
Net change: 6.5 yards accumulated  (mostly attributed to my Paducah purchases in April)

Linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times -

  1. Jan, I do understand your change of style in fabrics. I found a way to update my stash and use it by taking a piece with me to the LQS and matching it up with something more "current". Along with a new pattern...a totally pleasing result. Judy has been an inspiration to me in the same way as she has touched you. Lots of good and bad in the Sunday Stash Reporting. Sandi

  2. What a cute baby quilt! If I had not already started one for my latest granddaughter, I would seriously consider making one like this :*)

By the way, I see that you are a new blogger - Welcome to the fun world of blogging!!! I wanted to make sure you are aware that you are a no-reply blogger. I tried to respond to a comment you left on my blog earlier (A Quilt and A Prayer), but couldn't. I realize you may have your blog set up that way for a reason, and I don't want to seem nosy, but I know how much I enjoy receiving responses to my comments and I thought I would let you know just in case you were not aware. If you want to change it, you can do that in your Blogger Profile.

  4. Found you on Val's Tuesday Archive. I used to do a stashbuster report, but I just gave up! I now call it building my resource center for retirement, LOL!!
