I've been making individual blocks. Been getting lots of practice with HSTs and flying geese! I think these blocks will work well together in a sampler quilt. I'm planning on using each fabric in at least two blocks for continuity (I think samplers sometimes look rather disjointed if they're totally random blocks).
Here are my blocks so far, not arranged in any particular order, just added to the wall in the as I made them:

Here are a couple of favorites. I love the subway map print which is from the Gramercy line. The tan/black/white geometric was from the freebie table at STLMQG a few months ago and I just liked it; it has partial words animal farm on the selvage.

I have 20 blocks planned, but before I go too much further I want to play around in EQ with fabric combos and layouts. I'm thinking about a 24" block for the center and some 6" blocks to break up the rigidity of a 20 block layout. I do plan to use sashing because all these busy blocks will need some breathing room.
This project was not on my January list, but "Prep for February retreat" was, so I can justify planning and prepping more blocks for this project as part of that goal, right? Who am I kidding, I have quilter's ADD and I'm just having fun with these fabrics!
Linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times for Design Wall Monday and Lee at Freshly Pieced for WIP Wednesday; check out everyone else's inspiring projects over there.
Love the colors and fabrics you are using for your blocks - they look amazing!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like the perfect prep for retreat project! I love that quilt making can be so versatile... you can't go wrong making something you love and enjoy, the perfect use always presents itself.
ReplyDeleteI've been working on a sampler as well. So much fun to see yours.
ReplyDeleteI really like these fabrics and the colours too. I'm sure what you come up with will be lovely
