On my design wall

Nothing of my own on my design wall today, but one of my goals each month is to keep up with bee blocks, which to me includes BOMs.

My LQS has a First Saturday BOM program that started in August, so we're 8 months into it. Just to see progress, I put them all up on my design wall. I really like this year's color palette with all these fall colors.

Here's the main block, with this month's version at the upper left.

Here's the alternate block. These are 12" blocks, two per month, so I guess this year's quilt will be pretty big with 36 blocks. Not sure I'm loving the alternate blocks, but we'll see what the plan is at the end.

I don't count any of this fabric into or out of my stash because each month we get kits with only exactly enough for that month's blocks.

Linking up with Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times, WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced, and Let's Bee Social at Sew Fresh Quilts.

  1. And that was going to be my question -- do you pick the fabrics or is this a kit. I do like the fall colors although I might have chosen a different one here or there. It should be a very nice quilt.

  2. I just love quilting bees. I don't know why they are fun but they just are. Your quilt will be beautiful!

  3. I did several of these BOMs in the past and what I found is that they made excellent gift quilts. Of course sometimes the quilt had to wait for just the right person but eventually they came along. I have also split my blocks into two quilts with different or additional alternate blocks. One set of blocks was split into a valance for my bedroom and a beautiful quilt for a friend with cancer. Amazing what you can do with quilt blocks.

  4. That's going to be a lovely quilt. I especially like the alternate blocks, which would make a great quilt all on their own.

  5. I like the colors of the leaf blocks too. It will be fascinating to see how they work with the alternates in the end!
